Busy Weekend on and off the Water

Junior Awards Evening and Party
Brilliant evening on Friday at the Awards Evening and party, and I know we all agree that Jo Morris and her Hereford Sixth Form team of students really put on a superb event for us all.
It’s great to see juniors, young and old, partying together and having such great fun……a nice early winter tonic amongst all the winter training!

Junior Captain Paul Brodholt, who does so much work to develop Junior rowing to such a high standard at RRC, said, “I’d like to thank you for the absolutely delicious bottle of malt whiskey – I don’t know who organised that, but it’s going down really well!”

Saturday – Women’s Rowing Meeting

It’s all kicking off with the RRC ladies. Major difference with men’s meeting? Nobody touched the free coffee & cakes yet. Apart from Jim Pettipher, our coffee maker…. And Princess Sally Pettipher and Princess Holly Airbright (who were served personally by Jim Buttons). — at Rowing Club Ross.
Captain Holly outlined and explained plans for women’s rowing for the coming year. A follow up email of minutes was sent out to all women on Sunday.

Development 8 on Sunday

Gabby Howell, Justyna Burford, Ryan Stanley, Julie Owen, Laura Wilson, Dave Russell, Carly Thomas, Frankie Crilley (not in that order!)

Name that Cox?

The river was high enough for a row up to Backney at the weekend. There were outings for the Men’s Head of the River Race Hopefuls, a Women’s Senior 8 and a Development Squad 8.

Junior Sculling Ladder

There were quite challenging river conditions for the sculling ladder on Sunday, but Juniors all showed just what sculling strength we now have right through the juniors in dealing so effortlessly with the fast stream. Having now had three sculling ladders, coaches are going to get much stricter on the ratings: we are trying to promote good, effective sculling by keeping the stroke rate low.

So, great weekend for the junior section. Wycliffe is the next event,so keep up the training!!

1970’s & 80’s Montage

Amongst the old photos that came back to the Club recently is a “montage” of pictures that are from the 70’s and early 80’s. It was made by Jerry Whitehouse who also did the watercolour background. Torsten has scanned it in and Jeremy PT has put a link to it in dropbox. It may be of interest to older members and could be passed on to those who do not come down.

The Montage can be accessed on Dropbox if you follow this link:
