CLUB NEWS

Its been another quite month on the water with a number of Heads cancelled thanks to the high rainfall levels experienced so far this year.

With Worcester Head sadly cancelled there is no competitive rowing to report this month.

Given the unpredictability of our river at the moment, an afternoon training session has been arranged on the Sharpness Canal at Gloucester Rowing Club.

The Tideway Mixed 8+ are taking the big trailer on Saturday 28th Feb and would welcome any other crews who would like to take advantage of some long distance training.

Gloucester Spring Head has been brought forward a week to Sunday 15th March. Please sign up on Spond if you are interested in taking part in this event.

This year’s Easter Camp will take place Tuesday 7th April – Friday 10th April. If you are able to help with this event please look out of a post on Spond closer to the time or contact Junior Captain Karen Thorpe-Williams.

It was a very cold but sunny day for the Wellness Fayre organised by Ross Town Council. It took place on Valentines Day at the Market House in the centre of town.

The club was represented there to promote rowing and run a recruitment drive for the upcoming Learn to Row courses, both senior and junior. We were also able to showcase our Mixed Ability group to those interested.

The day began at 8:15, the stall decorated and kitted out with promotional flyers to hand out and MARS Stars information. Tim and Pam delivering 2 rowing machines, promotional posters and feather flags.

Despite it being a relatively quiet day, we managed to entice several people onto the ergos where they were given expert guidance! This included one of our Liberal Democrat councillors, Ed O’Driscoll. Kirsty did a great job of videoing him so that he could promote us on his social media. Many flyers were handed out and hopefully we will see some of those people interested signing up to a learn to row course soon!

The ergos came in handy to help us keep warm throughout the day, in between potential customers.

At the end of the day everything was packed up and shipped back to the club in convoy style, thanks to Graham, Dave Sykes and Sue Thompson.


Many thanks to all those that helped make this possible. Lisa for her work behind the scenes with lots of help from Jan and Nicky who was there all day! Thanks to Jane Gardiner of Ross Town Council for all her help.

Thanks to Lily, Poppy and Andy for creating and printing the flyers and to all those that helped in shifts throughout the day, juniors and junior parents, seniors and all Captains. It was a good team effort showcasing Ross Rowing Club to our town.
