The mixed masters eight completed in the masters head of the river in a Mx Mas ABC category boating from Putney Town RC. The crew consisted of Alice Simon, Ellen Phelps, George Smith, Steve Randell, Gareth Robbins, Anthony Dixon-Gough, Alison Barker and Holly Campbell. The crew was coxed by Rachel Wales who was coxing the Tideway for the first time.
A few words from Rachel “ Boating and marshalling went smoothly, and the forecast rain held off just long enough – only arriving as we turned and headed towards Chiswick Bridge.
We set off at a blistering pace, with the famous landmarks flying past and plenty of space to hold our best racing line. As the river twisted, so did the conditions – by Hammersmith the wind and the rain had picked up, forcing the crew to dig deep, push hard finishes, and battle strong gusts all the way to the finish line.
But they never wobbled. Every last stroke was full of strength and determination to the finish.
As a cox, I couldn’t be prouder of this crew”
Well done to the crew for a great race and to Rachel for steering a superb racing line resulting in 50th place out of 296.
The punishing weather conditions continued for the row back which was to quote Steve “character building”!
The crew would like to thank the support crew Lisa Robbins, Nicky Wild and Kate Stevens for their help, support and encouragement on the day.
The post race cocktails were definitely well deserved!
