Senior Racing
After a successful start to the regatta season of racing in early May, the pots and medals have continued to roll in with more wins at Monmouth, Hereford, Nat champs and Ironbridge.
Monmouth: Some great racing all round on a very hot day, with wins for:
● Bron and George G. (WMasD 2x)
● Graham, Dave S, Dave R, Clive and cox, Sheron (OpMas G/I 4+)
● Ellen, Alice, Alison, Holly and Rachel (WMasC 4+).

Hereford: With 12 crews, it was a fantastic day of racing for Ross, taking away 7 Wins!! There was a fantastic club atmosphere with the club gazebo making for a great hub of fun. Wins for:
● Graham and Dave (OpMasG 2-)
● Graham, Dave S, Dave R, Clive and cox, Sheron (OpMasG 4+)
● Chris and Andy (Op2x)
● George S and Steve (OpMasD 2-)
● George S (OpMas D 1x)
● Alison, Ellen, Lisa, Buffy (WMasD 4x)
● And a win for our newest racers: Poppy, Lucy, Morgan, Jo PS and cox, Buffy in the beginners event.

British Rowing Masters National Championships: A fantastic weekend of racing with Ross crews bringing home a full set of medals! With fierce cross winds on the Saturday and stake boats abandoned part way through the day, our crews did incredibly well. Saturday results were:
● George S. was in a very close race to finish 3rd in the OpMasD Lightweight 1x
● George S. in his second race of the day, secured a fantastic silver in a composite crew with Greenbank (OpMasD 2x)
● Bron and George G. took home a fantastic bronze in their first championship race (WMasD 2x).
● Ellen, Alison, Alice, Holly and cox, Rachel missed out on gold by just one second in a fantastic race (W Int Over 36 4+)
Sunday brought much calmer conditions and more great racing:
● George S and Steve brought home a fantastic GOLD medal in a thrilling final, taking victory by just 0.08 seconds! (OpMasD 2-). Massive congratulations to them both!!
● Graham, Dave S, Dave R, Clive and cox Sheron, finished 4th in a tightly contested final (OpMas G 4+)
● Dave S and Graham narrowly missed out on a place in the final (OpMasG 2-)
● Mike finished a creditable 5th in the Int 65+ 1x.
A huge well done to everyone who represented against top level competition.

Ironbridge: Two crews traveled to race. The crew of Graham, Dave S, Dave R, Clive and cox Sheron notched up yet another win by an impressive four lengths. Ellen and Holly, in a new event for them, also took part in the WMasC/B. Without handicap and with some unfortunate technical issues, they couldn’t overcome the eventual winners and lost their semi final.
What a fantastic month of racing we have had. The enthusiasm across the senior sections of the club to compete is inspiring.

Learn to Row
The first class of Learn to Row has graduated and congratulations to all who took part and welcome to those that have taken up club membership. With the new cohort underway, it is great to see our first cohort continuing to join in, helping to support whilst continuing to develop their rowing. Big thanks to them, others sitting in and to the continuing dedication of the Learn to Row team.
Juniors
Competitive junior rowing has been quiet as most of the current members are getting stuck into exams. After a successful Easter Camp, our Summer Camp is now on the horizon, and as always, please offer up your support if you can.

FINALLY…A WORD OF CAUTION TO ALL COACHING BOAT DRIVERS
Please take care when getting the coaching boat onto, and back up the ramp at the end of your session. Due to the low river levels, to avoid serious damage, the boats need to be lifted onto the ramp BEFORE using the power winch.

Ex-Ross Juniors Doing Us Proud At Henley!

It was fantastic to see former Ross Juniors enjoying outstanding success at this year’s Henley Royal Regatta, continuing to make the club proud on one of rowing’s biggest stages.
Fliss raced for Reading University ‘A’ in The Queen Victoria Challenge Cup (Women’s Quadruple Sculls), one of the regatta’s newer women’s events. Rowing in the bow seat and the youngest member of the crew, Fliss helped her crew to a superb victory over Algemene Amsterdamsche Studenten Roeivereniging Skøll of the Netherlands, winning by 2¼ lengths. Their winning time of 7:17 also set new records for the Barrier, Fawley and Finish timing points, making it an especially memorable performance.
Violet represented Washington University ‘A’ in The Island Challenge Cup (Women’s Eights). Rowing in the four seat, she helped her crew progress all the way to the final after an impressive campaign. In a closely fought race, they were narrowly beaten by Brown University ‘A’ by just half a length, finishing as worthy finalists after an excellent regatta.

The club also had plenty to celebrate from its current and recent junior athletes. On Sunday 28th, Will Berry-Jones and Guy Turner competed in the J16 England v France Trials in a double scull, producing an excellent performance to finish second.
At Henley, Guy Turner, rowing for Hereford Cathedral, successfully progressed through the qualifiers in the Fawley Challenge Cup (Junior Quadruple Sculls) on Saturday 27th. His crew’s regatta came to an end on Tuesday when they were beaten by a strong New Zealand crew.
Meanwhile, Faith, rowing for Hartpury, made history as part of the first ever Hartpury ‘B’ crew to qualify for Henley in the Diamond Jubilee Challenge Cup (Junior Women’s Quadruple Sculls). After qualifying on Saturday 27th, they defeated Oundle by 1½ lengths in Tuesday’s opening round. As the only ‘B’ crew to reach the last 16, they went on to face a highly experienced Maidenhead ‘A’ crew on Thursday. Although they were beaten by two lengths, it was an outstanding performance and a remarkable achievement for the crew.

Congratulations to Fliss, Violet, Will, Guy and Faith on their fantastic achievements. It is wonderful to see both former and current Ross rowers competing with such distinction at the highest levels of the sport, and we look forward to following their continued success in the seasons ahead.

A brilliant day out at Henley Royal Regatta!
An early 8am coach from Ross got us to Henley in time for a full day of sunshine, exciting racing and unbeatable atmosphere that only Henley can offer. From watching world class rowing to enjoying plenty of food, drinks and good company, it was a fantastic day from start to finish.
If you missed out this year, look out for coach tickets next year. The more the merrier!

Haigh Environmental Partnership

Ross Rowing Club has partnered with local company Haigh Environmental to launch a new water quality monitoring buoy on the River Wye. The “WaQa” buoy continuously measures key indicators including turbidity, dissolved oxygen, pH and temperature, with the data available online to provide real-time insights into the river’s health.
The project, launched during the 2025 Ross Regatta, aims to improve understanding of water quality while raising awareness of the importance of protecting the Wye. Ross RC and Haigh Environmental plan to share the monitoring data with Ross Town Council, local organisations and the wider community.
The event also celebrated Haigh Environmental’s new sponsorship of the club and the christening of the club’s new coxed four, Clearwater. Club Chair Jonathan Preece thanked Haigh for its continued support, highlighting the benefits for rowing at all levels, while local MP Jesse Norman praised the initiative as an important step in protecting one of the region’s most treasured natural assets.
The partnership reflects Ross RC’s ongoing commitment to promoting a healthy River Wye for rowing, recreation and the wider community.

Inspired by Henley Royal Regatta a Pimms Regatta was held at the club mixing up Junior, Senior, and L2R members.
It was a really great evening bringing Henley to the banks of the beautiful River Wye. Well done to everyone that helped pull it together and for making it such a fun and competitive evening. It was a great way for everyone to mix in and have fun. Well done to our inaugural winners. Poppy, Nicky, Luke and Ali, coxed by Kirsty. Definitely an annual event on the cards. Ali has recently rejoined the club having previously rowed at Ross as a junior. Welcome back Ali!
