Club Picnic and Presidents Lunch

Bank Holiday Monday, the club will be open and everyone is welcome to bring a picnic lunch down to enjoy the riverside despite the lack of racing. The weather looks good and the bar will be open!

Members, guests and sponsors are also welcome at the Presidents Lunch which will be held on the Presidents Lawn.

Thank you Haigh Group and MPC

Our 35 year old septic tank had become increasingly fragrant after large deposits

This has been particularly noticeable and unwelcome at Regatta time.

Thanks to the enormously generous sponsorship of Haigh Group and their subsidiary MPC we are now connected to mains drainage.

Our thanks go to Jacob and Luke Shepherd, Managing Directors of Haigh Group and Nigel Shepherd their Chairman for their amazing support.

Torsten Pope (one happy Facilities Director)

The new system comprises two underground holding tanks with twin pumps, one by the bridge and the other in the right-hand camping field – where you can see the tall, flood proof block “chimneys”.

Sewage is pumped to the main town sewer that crosses our land near the Homs Road car park.

Once the camping season is over the mobile toilets and showers will be moved from the car park into the camping field by the second tank, refurbished and connected. A separate tank for Elsan will be installed close to the bridge for easy access.

The project has been over 4 years is the planning and was completed in time for the now cancelled regatta.

Congratulations Dave

Dave Sykes – Umpire

Congratulations to Dave Sykes who has qualified as an umpire ( for rowing ‍♂️  I’m not sure he’s up to the next Test Match 🏏 )

Our RRC Umpire compliment now comprises:

  •   Bryn Hughes
  •   Sheron Dean-Lucas
  •   Neil Lucas
  •   Mike Jones
  •   Dave Sykes
Thank you all. Safe and fair racing is not possible without you.

Anyone interested in becoming an umpire can speak to Bryn Hughes to get the gen.

JUNGLE CRY

Kolkata Revisited

A free screening of Jungle Cry and Bring Your Own curry night was kindly hosted by the club on Thursday evening.

It was wonderful to see people we know, kids that some of our members support in India, and some very famous rugby faces, on screen.

Our Jungle Crows and Khelo Rugby friends are always welcome at Ross. For more on their work in India see: Jungle Crows Khelo Rugby (Khelo means “Play”)

You can rent the film for £2.99 here: Jungle Cry

Anyone that would be interested in further supporting this work, contact Sally Pettipher or Jack Westley.

Watch this space for the next International Film and Food event.

Thinking about screening Mauvaises Herbes with a BYO French Feast

Stunning Scenery 🤩

Low water doesn’t stop play for Ross rowers.

Anne takes a play boat up to Backney. These play boats have plastic hulls and don’t have a fin, so can, with Captains permission, be taken carefully above the rapids at Sheepwash.

David and Brian set off with the ever stunning backdrop of Ross-on-Wye climbing up the hill to the Royal and St Mary’s.

Mixed and Women’s Eights

Current rowers and others who would like to return to rowing

As we move into the Head season some members have expressed an interest in eights. It would be nice to see them back on the water after so long and great to have representation from Ross at future Heads and Regattas . We have fabulous gym facilities to use when the weather doesn’t cooperate and access to various strength and conditioning equipment to enhance training.

Current members check out Spond for Pam’s notice.

Interested returners contact Email Sally
