Morgan Baynham-Williams followed her Henley Regatta Gold medal with a Silver at the Euros today, Sunday 14th August. A resurgent women’s squad nailed victory in small and large boats, culminating in this amazingly tight race for gold and silver against Champions Romania.
GB led into the last quarter with a show of technique, strength and possession, bettering their earlier heat performance where they lost to Romania, and just losing out to them – they are current Champions – in the final few hundred metres.
Morgan gave a polished media performance immediately afterwards. “Never say never” – If you heard it you know!!

” We’ve just returned from a boiling hot Castrello de Mino, Spain, where we watched Ella compete for Great Britain in the Coupe de la Jeunesse.
As you probably know, The Coupe de la Jeunesse is an International rowing event competed for by sixteen nations annually, with points being awarded to each country for the placing of the boats in each boat category, with the resulting highest points team total establishing a Junior Men’s, Women’s and overall event Champions.
Ella was part of a quad that won two bronze medals, in an incredibly competitive event that saw the highest number of entries each day. Both days an impressive Polish crew took gold, with France ahead of GB, however on the second day the tussle between France and GB
was superb to see with France narrowly edging out our girls, both finishing closely behind the Polish.
Even better the GB Squad as a whole, won the men’s, women’s and overall Coupe de la Jeunesse trophy, something they haven’t won since 2018 and with one of the highest totals ever scored, with Italy coming second and France third.
Ella was delighted and very proud to be able to compete for Great Britain as just a few weeks earlier, at GB final crew formation for the World Championships Team she contracted Covid 19. Disappointingly, this ended her chance of going to the Worlds, but she was able to recover to take her place at the Coupe, which was thankfully a week later!
Very best wishes to you and everyone at Ross. “

This long hot summer made for a fabulous backdrop.
The refurbished club and its many, many wonderful members who helped with set up and bar duties, created a special personal atmosphere.

Wye Pilgrimage
Heavens above, the Wye must not die!
A river pilgrimage to raise awareness and to call for action to stop pollution of the river.
A sculpture of Our Lady of the Waters and the Wye, mounted between two canoes, will float 75 miles downstream from Hay-on-Wye to Monmouth between 15th and 19th August.
Fr Richard Williams of Hay-on-Wye and Sculptor Philip Chatfield will accompany Our Lady, landing at Ross Ross Club at 5pm on Thursday 18th (this coming week) and launching again Friday morning at 10am.
Philip survived a SHIPWRECK !!!
In 1995 the SV Maria Asumpta, built in 1858, was lost off Padstow. Tragically three lives were lost but Philip survived. We hope the waters of the Wye serve to be less threatening!
