Ross Rowing Club paid its respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II this morning, Sunday 18th September, by wearing black, and conducting a silent vigil before taking to the water.

Rowers will not row tomorrow Monday 19th Sept, allowing a day of contemplation and reflection on the occasion of the State Funeral.

As the evenings draw in, we start to transition to winter rowing. For those who work office hours this means evenings in the gym rather than on the water.

DAYTIME ROWING

This is a perfect time to get on the water while there is light all year round. There is an open access daytime rowing session every morning with men and women who would be delighted to welcome more people.

It is non-competitive, social rowing, good for your health and wellbeing, and affording a wonderful way to enjoy the Wye Valley in the company of others. Back on land there is always chit chat over tea, coffee and biscuits afterwards.

If you have rowed before, and would like to return, we would be delighted to see you. If you row at evenings and weekends and can find time for an occasional daytime session, you are also very welcome.

Email me HERE and I will put you in touch with the right people to let you know about timings.

Daytime men and women – summer and winter. Welcome All

Stable singles – without fins – allow rowing up to Backney even in low water and for rowers nervous about a fine single.

You might even met a silly cow

Fry-Days Fast Forward

The sun sets on the last of this summer’s awesome Friday night gourmet burgers

Thanks to all who have eaten, gorged and stuffed themselves silly – all for the benefit of RRC.

Special thanks too to all the flippin’ sizzlers who were, quite literally, cooking on gas all summer long. Take a bow Jack and Buffy

Future Fridays – Club kitchen menu in development – Possibly Pizza

A sighting of the ever elegant Preeces in Porto.
“Unfortunately the elite crew had already gone out” said Jonathan.

Buoys and their balls

Intrepid explorer Dave Sykes not only persuades Jan to execute a boat-based rescue of a stray buoy at Wilton this morning to reposition on the submerged wall near the canoe launch, but goes paddling downstream of Wilton Bridge this afternoon to rescue several more.

OPEN MEETING
Thursday 3rd November 6pm

All welcome – to discuss the development of a MIXED ABILITY rowing squad as a way of having fun and extending the joy of rowing, being on the water, making new friends and helping build physical and mental health.

See pics below to show just how joyful this is.

Sally attended the first International Mixed Ability Regatta in Cork, Ireland earlier this year, accompanied by Ellen Buttrick, GB Paralympian.

The proposal is to start as an adult pilot programme but this may be extended to juniors once we have sussed out how best to make this work, and what, if any, additional support may be needed for U18s.

If you are interested in the detail, there is a (Draft) project proposal HERE
