Scary and Sparkly

A Halloween Hoot

Great fun was had by all as the RRC club band got people bobbing and howling last Friday.

Special thanks to Lucy, Phil, Alice and Greg, the ‘social committee’, who organised the event, decorated the club and provided yummy veggie chilli 🌶 and jacket potatoes, along with bobbing apples and toffee apple shots.

There was plenty of stylish fancy dress from Austin Powers to Skeletons and congrats to Buffy for winning the fancy dress in her MZ5 Pumpkin special

Thanks too to Jan, Dave, Sue and the bar crew kept everyone liquid, and our club band, brilliant as ever, and performed for free to allow the club to make as much as they could from the event. We especially need to thank the drummer Dave who is not a club member and did the event as a favour to us

Lions Light up the Night

Welcome

Wonderful to welcome the Lions Club to the Rowing Club fields last night for a fantastic firework display.  We have a close relationship with the Lions. Over time many “Rossians” have been members of both clubs, sometimes at the same time!

See them on Facebook at Ross-on-Wye Lions Club CIO (from which the above photos were taken). As one of their members says on there: “We are all ordinary people who live in and around Ross, we volunteer our time and talents to try to make a difference in the community”

Thanks to RRC members who provided the pop up bar, Torsten and the crew for the set up, Dave and his team for friendly and efficient service, as ever!

Greg captured the calm after the fireworks had ended

Mixed Ability Rowing

Thanks to all who came to the Mixed Ability Rowing open evening on Wednesday – from the local community as well as past and current RRC members.

Special thanks to Daniel Lister from Enviroability in Ross, to the International Mixed Ability Sports team, and to Mark Dewdney from Stratford upon Avon Boat Club who has run a programme there for many years. Photo above is a SuABC Mixed ability eight.

Daniel has invited us to Leisure Link, an Enviroability programme, to meet local people with a range of abilities, and Mark has invited us to Stratford to see a Mixed Ability session in progress.

Please let Sally Pettipher or Dan Bailey know if you would like to join either of these. Details on Spond in due course.

Victoria Sponge Junior Double Scull (2x) Refurbished

Thanks to Faith Thorpe-Williams for her letter of support to accompany a Rowing Foundation funding application – and delighted to have been successful. Thank you to the Trustees of this charity.

Gloucester Head

There was a great team spirit despite the weather at Gloucester Head last weekend, 30th October.

The RRC senior contingent consisted of a Ladies 8 (pictured), a ladies quad (pictured), and Buffy and Mike in a double.

The junior crews went for the long course in the afternoon division and consisted of:
WJ16 4x- Faith Thorpe-Williams, Fliss Cox, Lily McClean & Gracie Jones.
J18 1x Charlie Pope
J18 1x Dom Gabb

It was a rainy morning, a torrential downpour in the middle of the day but a calm and sunny autumnal afternoon. The smiles definitely sunnier than the weather in the morning

Upcoming Races ‍♂️

4 December – Monmouth Head

Warning… If you are reading this as a non rower, this might look like complete gobbledegook but those in these crews know what it means!!
