New Year – New Floods

Big Question 1… Has the rebuilt club house been breached?

This is the access road to the club. It is this that floods first due to the brook that runs alongside.

THANK YOU to all the rowers, social members, friends and family who answered the call to put in place measures to protect people and property.

‍♂️ Boats on trailers were towed away by the Boathouse Fairy 🧚‍♂️

Bar stock was raised to a higher level

“HAS ANYONE REMEMBERED TO TAKE OUT THE BUNGS”

(sorry, in-joke if you’re on Spond)

Big Question 2

If the club house has been breached, have the new flood measures protected it?

Cliff Hanger

At time of writing, the Editor doesn’t know the extent of the damage, if any…

Historic flood levels indicate we may have been 2cm off water getting into the club.

The new club house is designed to let a flood wash through, and be cleaned and up and running thereafter.

This is our first test. We shall see…

Ross-on-Sea ?

If you don’t know the road, the A40 is a dual carriageway that is a main route from the Midlands to South Wales.

It links Ross to our friends in Monmouth, about a 10 minute drive if you don’t break the speed limit and thus dodge getting a fine from the all-too-frequent “safety partnership” mobile speed camera 📸 at Goodrich.

Here’s a clip of running that gauntlet today.

NOTICES

BIG CLEAN UP – Whether the floods have got into the Boat House or Club House or not, there will certainly be debris and silt left on the steps and hard standing. Many hands make light work, please answer the call and help when asked.

MASTERS HEAD – what we’ve always known as “Vesta Vets” has become the Masters’ Head. I’ll grant you, unless you know about rowing, its races and terminology, you might well think this is a new pub. You can check out details on their twitter feed @vesta_masters HERE

Fabulous Photo

Nature is impressive. So too the photographic and compositional skills of our rowers. Hats off to Alison Barker for a fantastic snap of the flood waters from Wye Street.
