Stardom past and present

Some of our older and younger rowers feature in this edition, showcasing their film making talents. This follows last week’s rowing victories. Gosh, what an amazing bunch you all are, read on…

RRC Juniors on the BBC

In the second episode of Paul Whitehouse: Our Troubled Waters some of the Ross Juniors have been featured! This episode was broadcast on the BBC on Sunday and is also available on BBC iplayer. There are some lovely shots of the club, an interview with some juniors and of the river.

Well done to everyone at RRC for being so welcoming, for being brilliant role models and for showcasing our club, and the wonderful River Wye Valley AONB

Andrew Anderson

On Tuesday 28th March, Ross rower Andrew Anderson has kindly agreed to come down and talk about his very interesting career as a wildlife cinematographer. This is an opportunity to hear from an Emmy Award winning cameraman who worked on BBC and National Geographic series – many of which you will recognise.

All welcome.

In the RRC Bar which will be open from 6pm

This is the second in our “last Tuesday” series of welcome events for anyone interested in Mixed Ability Rowing.

Please share this with anyone you know who may be affected by illness, injury, physical or mental disabilities but who would like to visit and see what goes on at our wonderful club, and if there is a place for them.

This might be as a rower, on the water or in the gym. It might be as technical support in the boathouse or clubhouse, it might be as a cake baker or sandwich maker at our rowing events or as a singer or dancer at our social events. Everyone is welcome.

CORONATION BALL

New Safety Boat Launch Steps

An order has been placed for a new steel stair to replace the existing earth steps next to the safety boat slipway. It will look something like the attached picture.

We are delighted to be working with AJ Lowther & Son Ltd of Whitchurch on this project.

This first order is of course just a small part of the overall refurbishment of our river frontage. Our thanks to all the club members involved, especially Rob Sedman for keeping us updated as we progress.

Wind Damage

High winds have ‘relocated’ the bbq hut and changed it into a modern sculpture. A big thank you to Rowena, Mick, Jeremy P-T and Debbie for sorting out the wreckage. Volunteers sought to get it rebuilt, please contact Torsten.

Anti-Pollution Campaign

All credit to the Women’s Institute

Daytime Rowerr, Diane Lancaster, recently highlighted that the Women’s Institute members will be voting on their annual campaign soon, and it is anticipated that this will be to support the work of reducing pollution in our rivers.

Previous campaigns have been to end single use plastics and SOS for honey bees.

Just as Ross Rowing Club is about so much more than just rowing, the WI is very much more than Jam and Jerusalem
