Andrew Anderson

???? above Andrew and his Emmy

Yet another successful Mixed Ability engagement event from Andrew Anderson’s interesting life and career. It was wonderful to hear him talk about his wildlife camera work and be able to see footage of some of it.

Lovely to welcome so many people to the club to hear Andrew.

For those who missed it there will be a recording available, we will add a link to that in a future newsletter

Blast from the past – Andrew showed some footage of George the Swan who used to terrorise other swans, and rowers!

Dan Bailey spoke passionately about the benefits of Mixed Ability rowing from his personal perspective of dealing with cerebral palsy. He said “there is so much more than the rowing, like the camaraderie that you get”

Mixed Ability Rowing is made possible thorough the generosity of:

The Queen’s Green Canopy

The final 420 saplings brings our Queen’s Green Canopy to 1,000.

Originally requested by the juniors that we plant trees to offset our carbon emissions.

Taken up by Buffy to get these donated through the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee initiative in partnership with the Woodland Trust.

These saplings of native species will form hedges around our camping fields as wel as screening the new Elsan (above)

The hedges will provide a home for wildlife as well as taking up carbon from the atmosphere.

Thanks to everyone who volunteered over the course of the last year.

Also thank you to Rachel Wales and Debbie Smith for litter picking the camping fields in preparation for the start of camping.

Lots of change since those days.

Full Funding for Mixed Ability Programme

We are very grateful to the many funders who have made it possible for us to fund the first year of Mixed Ability programme. Along with nearly £10k to fund a part-time coach and co-ordinator, there was help to purchase stabilisers for a couple of our boats.

We still need a little more to cover the cost of capsize drills, some new life jackets suitable for rowers as well as coxes, and some posters and leaflets to leave with disability organisations, but we are well on the way!

We have added our funders logos to a couple of draft posters – see what you think.

Those who may not initially, or ever, want to get into a boat are welcome to be part of our club in other ways that help them, and help us. A win win for all.

Women’s Tank Session

Thanks everyone who came the Hereford a few weeks ago and a special thanks to Richard and Bryn for coaching. Some of the women had never been in the tank before and thought it was great!
