Regatta Round-up!

There have been a few regattas over the last few weeks, Worcester, Monmouth and Hereford to name a few. Ross have entered numerous crews in Junior and Senior races and have done well, winning pots and medals. Take a look at the pics below. Well done to everyone who entered a race, whether you took a pot home or not, you have done Ross proud.

Ross Regatta

It is only 3 months away

Ross Regatta is one of our biggest fundraising events, (and our biggest FUN-raising event). Held over the August Bank holiday weekend, 24th – 26th August, we’ve got the infamous Dragon Boat Racing on the Saturday, 550m Sprint Regatta on the Sunday, and the full course 750m Regatta on the Monday.

A hugely popular competition at the end of the Regatta season, we get competitors from all over the country. It’s also hugely popular for the local community with plenty of spectators from the town, and further afield.

But, all of this takes a planning and organisation – and whilst plenty of it has been going on behind the scenes for a few months now – with only 3 months to go, it’s time for the Dream Team of the club members to get involved!

Come along on Thursday evening (6th June) to find out more, and find out where you can help. Whether it be tea tents, start marshalling, helping boats on/off the water, noting down the results at finish admin or clocking them off at the start there are plenty of jobs for everyone.

Beerfest 2024

On behalf of the Club’s Trustees/Directors a MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who helped in the early planning, team organisation and leading and delivery of a fantastic club effort in support of the Ross Lions & Rotary Beerfest 2024, which took place 4th-5th May.

The weekend was a fantastic success with some glorious weather ????️ (and some not so glorious moments ????️), great local bands and music, great beer and cider and just the right balance of festival food ???????????? prepared and served by a small elite army of club volunteers…

We have been hosting & supporting Beerfest at the Rowing Club for some 10 years now and every year we strive to improve our offering to our guests and learn something new, this year was no different and a improvement on previous years…

As this is one of the key fundraising events in the clubs calendar it’s always good to communicate the results of club members efforts put into this event..

So here it is….Beerfest 2024 generated Food & Soft Drinks Sales of £5769.85 (25% up 2023) after costs this raised £3418.94 plus £1215 for venue hire, which adds up to a total of £4633.44 !!

This was a 18% increase on 2023 and even exceeded Beerfest ‘22 by a few £ which was our best to date, so all round a fantastic result from a fantastic club e

And Finally…

A bit late but there is always time to celebrate!

Julie Smith celebrated her 70th birthday in April with just a few of the daytime rowing crews, Sheron, Anne, John P and Sarah T.
Her calm and encouraging rowing knowledge has been the reason many of us progressed to competent ????rowers !! … Inspite of health challenges she continues to be a robust and valued member of RRC … keep on rowing Julie
