Ross Regatta Cancelled

It is with regret and disappointment that Ross Regatta 2024 is cancelled. This decision has been made due to the exceptionally low water level in the River Wye, and the lack of any significant rainfall predicted over the next two weeks.

The Regatta Committee has looked into every possibility to hold the regatta in some shape or form, but it would be unsafe for us to allow competition on such a small amount of water.

However, we will go ahead with the following events on Sunday the 25th and Monday 26th August:

1. On Sunday 25th August at 17.00pm the Ross Duck Race will go ahead from the club as planned. Hundreds of ducks have been sold, and all members and associates are welcome to join with the duck sponsors for some fun. We will be running the barbeque and bar.

2. On Monday 26th August at 12.30 we shall be holding an opening ceremony to celebrate our new steps, and officially name a new addition to our fleet of rowing boats. Members and their guests are warmly invited to attend the ceremony, and to bring a picnic to enjoy on the club lawn afterwards. The bar will be open throughout the afternoon.

3. Also on Monday 26th August at 13.00 our President will be hosting a lunch for sponsors and friends of Ross Rowing Club (by invitation only).

Thank you to everyone for your continued support of Ross Rowing Club.

Club Updates

Work on the club house pitched roof has been completed. The solar panel and battery system is also running. Most of the funding for the work was generously given by Nigel and Rosie Shepherd.

The steps are also almost finished! It has been great watching the progress over the last few weeks. Well done to all involved.

RRC Summer Party

A message from Harry Green:

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for the RRC Summer Party—it was a wonderful evening, and it was fantastic to see such incredible support!

We’re thrilled to share that we took over £2,000 behind the bar, with a massive shoutout to Dave, Jan, Nicky, and Fran for their hard work.

A big thank you to everyone who helped set up the marquees, dance floor, tables, chairs, and everything else needed to make the night special. And an even bigger thank you to those who, despite their hangovers, came back this morning to take everything down.

Leo, Marsaili, Sally, Phil, Mike, Jack, Charlie, Poppy, Sue, Will, Annabel, Jonathan, and the Juniors—you were all fantastic! Apologies if I’ve missed anyone.

Special thanks to Bianca Brisc and her partner Adrian for the delicious cherries, kindly provided by Drummond Farms.

To Kate Stevens and her partner Ant for the supply of Ledbury Real Ale, which went down a treat.

Huge appreciation to Buffy and Jack for serving up around 130 burgers—you both absolutely smashed it all night.

And finally, a massive thank you to Torsten Pope for organising the entire event and ensuring everything ran smoothly.

What a night! Here’s to many more like it!

PS. Sorry about my horrific dance moves.💃💃

Another side of RRC

A piece by Imogen Bell:

Ross Rowing Club means a lot to me, as it does to many of you. A place where I learnt to and love to row, where I met so many friends and made so many memories. It introduced me to a sport that I shared with my late Grandfather. All whilst sitting next to a wonderful river and surrounded by countryside beauty.
Photography is something I have loved and dreamt of pursuing. Again a hobby I shared with my Grandfather. I am now fortunate enough to be studying Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at University.
On his honeymoon with my Nana, they canoed down the Wye passing our club house. He would row at Stourport and in his later years move to the Lake District and photograph the landscapes.
In my exploration of film photography I have been fortunate enough to use my Grandfathers analogue camera. During the Easter I took some photos of the rowing club with my Grandfathers camera. A very surreal, full circle moment for me.
I thought I would share them with you all and thank you all for creating such a lovely and supportive environment. ❤️📷🚣🏻‍♀️

Here is my photography Instagram account where you can see all I have been up to at university.

Don’t forget

🍔🍺🚣‍♀️

The Friday BBQ is still on! How exciting. Join Jack and Buff on Friday’s from 6pm for beautiful gourmet burgers, and grab yourself a drink from the bar.
